The Better With Money Program: Read about Ewomazino’s journey with LIFT

For many entrepreneurs, the only thing better than the joy of starting their business is the joy of making money from it. However, this joy was bittersweet for Ewomazino Efijemue, Founder of Zherb Rillers Couture, as the demands of people management and various costs of production left her business in danger of being unprofitable.

“In the beginning when I started, I had so many workers and I was paying a heavy amount. At the end of the month, I realised that I was working for my landlord and for my workers. So it didn’t make sense, my take home was even smaller than the cost of running my business.

I had people earning as high as 50,000 naira a month…my rent was heavy because it was a live-in and workspace…A lot was going on for me!”

Something had to give and this Creative Director with the hearty laughter knew it should not be her business. She made the bold decision to be a part of LIFT and the knowledge she received helped her business reach financial freedom while adding value to others.

“When I started the program in January, I was about to get married and I was not sure if I should get on the program anymore but something told me to go on it and I am so glad I trusted my instinct!

I learnt to outsource to as many tailors and that way, I am also adding value to their tailors because they get to make more money. A lot of them just sit in their stores sometimes and they don’t have jobs. I also learnt from the LIFT program to train these tailors on the standards I wanted on my garments so that it still looks like something coming from your brand.”

Her business journey with LIFT did not end there however as she gained more than she bargained for.

“Kemi of Stylehouse had a lot of challenges and they were challenges I had faced at one point or the other and so, having to get other people’s view on the case study opened my mind to newer options I had not explored.  That case study was so relatable and I had to ask her (one of the LIFT facilitators), “Is Kemi real? Is Stylehouse real?”

We learnt a lot about marketing strategies on LIFT so now I know how to market these products and push it out there. I also learnt how to mix technology with my business and make it work.

“LIFT is everything!”, she concluded.
